Working with sun, shade, and time
In Mediterranean landscapes, light is never neutral. It shapes every surface, defines every volume, and changes the garden hour by hour. Designing without considering light is designing incompletely.
At Serene Roots, light is treated as a primary material. Trees are positioned to filter rather than block the sun. Shadows are anticipated and welcomed. Open spaces allow brightness to expand, while planted areas provide relief and rhythm.
Olive trees, lavender, and native grasses interact beautifully with light, creating movement and texture throughout the day. Stone surfaces reflect warmth, while water softens glare. The garden becomes a dynamic environment, constantly evolving.
A landscape designed with light in mind does not rely on excess. It trusts the natural qualities of the place. It allows time to become part of the design, turning each moment into a quiet variation of the same space.
